Information

The Digital World

The disappearance of the Digital World happened suddenly, and without warning. The only notification of it's occurance was the sudden materialization into the Real World of any Digimon or Digidestined who had been there when it happened. After this point, it became impossible to contact, and has become considered, for all intents and purposes, gone.

There has yet to be any explanation for why this happened. Nothing occurred in the network of the physical internet, and it remains undisrupted and fully functional. There have been, however, noticable effects on the lives of Digimon and Digidestined. Primarily among this has been the crippling of the capabilities of Digivices, which can also no longer contact the Digital World. As a result, Digivices can no longer be used for communication, or for the activation of Digiports. While the Digidestined community still attempts to maintain contact through more conventional means, it has significantly fractured it's ability to do so quickly and easily. Some of the more isolated Digidestined can no longer be contacted through any means. Many adjustments have needed to be made.

As well, the capability of Digimon to evolve to higher ranks has become severely disabled worldwide. Immeadiately following the disappearance of the Digital World, all partner Digimon were reset back to Rookie form, and were completely unable to evolve further. Recently, the efforts of Izzy Izumi, a well-known member of the original Digidestined, have enabled Digivices to activate a phenomenon known as Armor Digivolution, allowing all partner Digimon to advance a single rank. However, nothing further has been unlocked, and presently Digidestined and their Digimon have been forced to adapt to this new state indefintely.

Besides allowing Armor Digivolution, Digivices have proven to still be capable of identifying other Digimon, and revealing limited information about them. How it is able to still obtain this information while losing most other capabilities remains a mystery.

For now, Digidestined and Digimon have been forced to try and deal with the significant changes that have taken place in their lives. The Digimon community continues to try and reconstruct the network they lost, mainly through virtual mediums such as online journals, but so far no one really knows how to return things to the way they were. The complete lack of information or reason behind the event has stymied all attempts to understand it, much less reverse it. There is anxiety over what this change forebodes, and what will happen now that the Digimon are all trapped with no home to return to. No one has forgotten what happened the previous times Digimon made brief incursions into the Real World, and the destruction they wrecked. With nowhere to drive them back to, what will happen if another catastrophe is sparked?

The Digimon Registration Act of Japan

Shortly after the disappearance of the Digital World, the government of Japan finalised and released the Digimon Registration Act in an effort to impose some order on the developing chaos. There had been previous initiatives created with the intention of proposing similar Acts, but due to the casual, interconnected network of Digidestined the world over, the situation had been considered self-monitoring. As well, attempts to monitor Digimon federally had been withheld as a show of good faith for the actions of the Digidestined (the defeat of Apocalymon, MaloMyotismon, etc).

However, with the ability of Digidestined to stay in constant contact with one another removed, attitudes shifted. Unwilling to be caught off-guard by another unexpected cataclysm, the Japanese government decided to take control of the situation itself. As a result, all Digidestined and Digimon living within Japan, as well as those visiting Japan, were ordered to register themselves in a federal database for purposes of security.

While certain penalties, such as immeadiate deportation, can be imposed upon foreigners who have not registered, currently there is no real enforcement of registration among the citizens of Japan. However, concern and mistrust have started to develop in relation to Digimon, as the meaning behind recent events remains anything but clear. Registration has helped ease this tension, but not all Digidestined choose to register. Divisions have begun to form in the Digidestined community.

Presently, it is unclear what exactly the Japanese government intends to do with the registration information it has obtained. There have been no further demands. Some believe this is because Registration is what it says it is, a measure to enhance security in worrying times. Other believe it is the prelude to something far more sinister. For now, only time will tell.

Rogue Digimon

While at first it was assumed that only partner Digimon remained after the disappearance of the Digital World, there has been word of other Digimon seen wandering the world. These reports have yet to be confirmed officially, but single Digimon or small groups have been observed moving about large urban centers. Much of this talk is put down to mass paranoia, although uncertainty is growing.

Primary in these rumours are statements released on the web from a group calling itself The Devas, who claim to be rouge Digimon banded together to discover what happened to the Digital World, and hunt down anyone responsible for it's disappearance. There has been no confirmation that the group is, in fact, composed of Digimon, but people talk. That no major media source has yet commented on these statements is considered suspicious by many. Still, until a rogue Digimon makes a public appearance, everything remains rumour.

FAQ

General

Q: Do I RP both the Digidestined and their Digimon?
A: Yes. That way, if a person is forced to leave the RP for any reason, there are no situations where a trainer is left without a Digimon, or vis versa.

Q: Which seasons are we talking about here, anyway?
A: The world of the RP takes place in the setting of the first and second season, set around a year after the second season ended. As a result, characters from these seasons have some preset history they have to be aware of. Characters from further seasons are allowed, and their partners will be reserved for them, but they need to be adapted to the setting. Currently, however, characters from the fourth season are restricted, due to the difficulty of adapting them to the setting. This may change eventually.

Q: So, what am I supposed to do here, exactly?
A: That depends entirely on what you want to do. While there will be a central plot and events taking place in the game, how your characters react to it are entirely up to you. You can be a gung-ho, battle-ready hero, ready to take on any opponent or obstacle. You can be a recalcitrant loner who keeps away from the main stage. You could even forgo battling altogether and focus entirely on character relationships. Just try not to isolate yourself entirely from the plot, and make sure anyone you try to interact with is up for whatever you've got planned.

Q: How do the journals work here?
A: Exactly like regular online journals. Your character is assumed to be using it to keep track of others in the Digimon community, and communicate with them. All interactions that take place in journals is entirely virtual. AIM conversations, however, can be either actual internet chats with other Digidestined, or a means to represent face-to-face interaction, depending on the circumstances. Of course, the OOC journal is not considered to be part of the network in the game. As well, offline interactions can take place in the Digi_logs.

The Characters

Q: What other kinds of characters are allowed besides canon Digidestined?
A: Characters from any other fandom can be transformed into Digidestined, so long as they are adapted to the setting. There may, of course, end up being exceptions to this, but this will depend entirely on the character chosen and how they are adapted.

Q: Can my character be from anywhere in the world like in the show?
A: Currently, no. All characters need to be in or around Tokyo for now, as otherwise it would be nearly impossible to co-ordinate everything. Eventually, however, this restriction will be changed.

Q: How many characters can I have?
A: Currently, just the one Digidestined and Digimon partner. There is a tendency in RP's for people to pick up several characters at once, only to be unable to actually support this many, resulting in a focus on one or two, if not a complete abandonment of them all. This sort of constant turmoil in character availability is disruptive, and this restriction is meant to help avoid it. Whether it changes or not with time depends entirely on circumstance.

The Digimon

Q: How far can the Digimon evolve?
A: Currently, all Digimon are only capable of evolving up a single Armor rank. This allows everyone to start on relatively the same level. Eventually, further evolutions will become available.

Q: I want a ____mon, but someone already has one! Can I have one too?
A: Currently, no. To encourage variety, all players are required to choose a Digimon partner that has not already been chosen. Eventually, if all possible Digimon partners have already been selected, this restriction will be changed.

Q: There's no -insert canon Digisdestined here- yet. Can I have their Digimon?
A: Not unless you are applying for that particular character. Again, to encourage variety, non-canon Digidestined are restricted to non-canon partners. As well, canon Digidestined are restricted to the partner they had originally (note that there may occasionally be exceptions to this rule if the need arises. Power reasons, for example).

Q: How do the Digimon partners work with non-canon characters?
A: When you select a character, you select one of the available Digimon from the list provided. How this new partner works is entirely up to you. You can base their personality on examples provided on the show, or other characters from other shows, games, etc., or just make up an entirely new personality for them. Choose whatever you think would make an interesting partner for your character. Note that if you do base them on a character from somewhere else, however, it's best not to treat them as if they were the character. You never know when someone might come along and chose to play that character themselves.

Battling

Q: How does battling work?
A: Casually. There aren't any specific rules or hit points to combat. If you want your Digimon to throw a rock, or use it's fire breath, then that's what it does. The end result will depend primarily on how you've worked things out with the person you're battling against. Remember, this is fundamentally a game about character interaction. Winning battles only matters for your character, not for your status in the RP.

Q: Then what do these phrases in the Digimon descriptions mean (like, "physically resilient", or "can produce energy shots")?
A: Basically, these are short, general descriptions of how the specific Digimon tends to fight, and what abilities they have. While they impact how the Digimon behaves, they only have as much meaning as you give them. Basically, while your characters Agumon can't shoot ice beams, he can tackle someone without your character having to yell "Super Dino Grapple Attack". If you would like a more detailed description of how these phrases impact your Digimon, feel free to ask.

Q: And how does the rank of my Digimon affect battling?
A: It's generally recommended that, one on one, the Digimon be of equal rank. Otherwise, the lower rank one will automatically be overpowered by it's opponent. For groups, however, a good general guideline is that four Digimon one rank lower than the one they are fighting can hold their own in a fight. The number of Digimon required would then double for each extra rank higher their opponent is. For example, 4 Rookies could hold out against a Champion/Armor, 8 Rookies could hold out against an Ultimate, and 16 Rookies could hold out against a Mega. Note, however, that specific event battles are bound to have exceptions to this.

List of Rookies

For details on the original series Chosen Digimon, there is a list available here. Currently, they can only be chosen as partners by characters that had them originally.

For non-Digimon series trainer characters, below is a list of available Rookie Digimon and their known digivolution chains. The descriptions are short and focus entirely on battle ability because these are intended to be new Digimon, seperate from any previous incarnations. The player is encouraged to add their own personality and quirks to the partner they choose. Of course, if the player wishes to use character aspects from versions of the Digimon they are familiar with, that's fine. However, do note that they are not the same as any characters from any version of the series. For example, if a character's Chuumon eventually digivolves into Etemon, it is a different Etemon than the one that appeared in the series, even if the player choses to have them behave similarily. Other than that, go nuts.

Note: The Registration question is in relation to the Digimon Registration Act of Japan, which was enacted shortly after the disappearance of the Digital World. While registration is required by law, not all Digidestined have done so, and it is currently not being actively enforced. It's up to you whether or not you think your character would be registered.

If you need to ask something, ask it here!

Q: Do I RP both the Digidestined and their Digimon?
A: Yup! It just makes it easier all 'round if this happens, so the Digidestined doesn't lose their Digimon in any way. xD

Q: How far can the Digimon evolve?
A: We'll leave that up to you. Please be sane and not Mary-Sueish. xD; The canon Digidestined can still Digivolution as far as they could in the series.

Q: I want a ____mon, but someone already has it! Can I have one too?
A: Only if ALL the other Digimon are taken. And I mean ALL. We would like variety, not 500,000,000 Agumons running around. 10,000,000 Gatomons are Just Not Cool.

Q: There's no -insert canon Digidestined here- yet. Can I have their Digimon?
A: Sadly, no. Agumon is reserved for Tai, Tentomon is reserved for Izzy, Armadillomon is reserved for Cody, etc. No changes.

Q: Which seasons are we talking about here, anyway?
A: Hur hur, forgot to say this. xD First and second, people! Third and up are being ignored; the characters from these series can be used with their Digimon, it's just that it's taking place in the first series' world.
